Twenty six Form Five students of Yat Sen Secondary School were inducted yesterday as provisional prefects as Form Six and Seven students now concentrate on their exams.
In front of a packed school hall, the prefects were given their badges and also took their oaths for their new responsibilities.
The new student leaders were inducted by their principal, Mrs Iva Teilai.
The provisional prefects will take over the responsibilities of looking after the junior students and are being groomed to take over next year. Delivering his address to the newly elected prefects, head boy Zaheer Narayan said the opportunity was an exciting and rewarding experience.
He said it built character and confidence and he thanked his team of prefects who had been relieved of their duties especially the just inducted head girl, Cynthia Roxburgh.
“This is an excellent opportunity so make the best and most of this opportunity,” he told the inducted prefects.
Meanwhile, Mrs Teilai said this would be a good opportunity for the outgoing prefects to concentrate on their schoolwork as they would be sitting for external exams this year.
“They don’t have to worry about their supervisory roles and next year most of these provisional prefects will be selected as prefects,” she said.
She said the head boy and head girl would remain as the head prefects of the school.
“This is the beginning and foundation for these students to being great leaders of Fiji in years to come.”
