Taxpayers who have been compliant with their tax returns will be awarded through the Gold Card holders’ initiative of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority.
To materialise the Gold Cardholders initiative, which was announced by the Prime Minister Commodore, Voreqe Bainimarama, at the 2012 budget announcements, FRCA chief executive officer Jitoko Tikolevu and Airports Fiji Limited chief executive, Tony Gollins, signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday.
The Gold Card will be presented to those people and companies who have complied with their tax returns for the last three years.
The holders of the card will get priority service by Land Transport Authority, Bio Security and AFL.
Mr Tikolevu also revealed that exceptions would also be made for Gold Card holders at various Government agencies, and an example of this is that if a Gold Card holder applies for work permit, his application would be processed in a week as opposed to the normal two weeks.
If a company holds the Gold Card, the services would extend to the company. He said this initiative was to award people who have kept up with their tax payments and also to encourage others to do the same.
Furthermore, Mr Tikolevu would be signing a similar agreement with LTA, whereby more special treatment in terms of vehicle registration and other services, would be given to them.
In this first phase, the authority will select 40 taxpayers, which includes companies and individuals to be part of the initiative.
“These 40 taxpayers contribute at least 50 per cent to FRCA’s annual revenue collection.”
The second and third phases of the initiative will see the inclusion of another 145 taxpayers.
The number of FRCA Gold Card members will depend on how much FRCA’s system and services can support them. Individual taxpayers are also selected to be part of the initiative.
FRCA has also engaged Government Agencies such as the Land Transport Authority, Immigration Department as well as Air Pacific for the Gold Card initiative.
“With revenue collection on target, the Gold Card initiative is Government’s recognition of taxpayers who have been compliant for the last three years,” he said.
