Indian national Muskan Balaggan appeared in the Court of Appeal in Suva yesterday, for the hearing of her bail-pending-    appeal application.
Balaggan, who faced one count of attempted export of illicit drugs and second count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs – was sentenced to eleven and a half years in jail earlier in June on each count.
The sentences are concurrent.
Following her sentencing Balaggan’s lawyer made an application for bail pending appeal to the Court of Appeal.
She was represented by her new lawyer Samanunu Vaniqi, as Balaggan’s previous lawyer from Gordon and Chaudhry Associates withdrew from representing her.
Justice Calanchini adjourned the matter to October 19 for a continuation of hearing.
