Airports Fiji Limited and Pacific Sun yesterday agreed to resolve the issue surrounding Labasa airport.
Civil Aviation Permanent Secretary Elizabeth Powell confirmed this yesterday, adding that the team met with Government officials and recognised the importance of resuming air services to Labasa.
“There has been a commitment by the AFL and Pacific Sun to work together to ensure that the airstrip is fully operational, yet complies with all safety requirements. We do not want the safety of those travelling to be compromised,” Ms Powell said.
An action plan has been agreed upon by all parties.
“AFL will be using their own resources to ensure that the recommendations of the consultant engaged by Pacific Sun are verified and also to ensure that all the necessary resources, including equipment and materials required to  make the necessary changes on the air strip, are available.
“AFL will get back to us as soon as possible on the time needed to finish any required work on the air strip, and both parties are now working together to see that the Labasa people and our economy do not suffer further,” Ms Powell said.
