Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee president Vidhya Lakhan has been renominated as president of the Pacific Games Council for the next four years.
His term comes to an end this month however he was reelected as he was the only nominee for the president post.
Lakhan was first elected as president of the Pacific Games Council in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007 for his second term.
During this term, he had been working on modernising the Pacific Games Council.
“These include the setting up of the PGC office and employment of a fulltime staff,” he said.
“Through various initiatives, one of my main initiatives is to make sure values are added to the Pacific Games to ensure it remains the premier sporting event of the Pacific staged every four years.:
For the last nine years, the greatest challenge the council faced was the adoption of an eligibility criteria acceptable to all the 22- member countries.
“I would like to think that we have now in place, something which is acceptable to most of our members.
“The other ongoing challenge is managing the size of the games to ensure that host countries are able to host good games and in this area we have also made some good progress,” Lakhan added.
The FASANOC president added he is working on all these areas to ensure these areas are achieved as he retains this position until 2017.
