National Netball coach Unaisi Rokoura has started her work on the roadmap to the 2015 World Netball Championship.
With Mere Rabuka going to France to join husband and former Flying Fijians Jone Qovu and with Matila Waqanidrola’s availability to play for Fiji in the next World Cup uncertain, Rokoura believes it’s time that she brings in young players.
Rokoura said she has called in players in the National Under-21 blended with some senior players to start working on a programme.
“I have given them their training programme to keep them occupied as we have started work for the 2015 World Cup.
“Not only that, I have some U21 players as well and this training should help them a lot in the World Youth Championship in Scotland next year.
“What I’ve done is regroup the team and have called the core with some invited players, nine of which are in the U21,” Rokoura said.
The former National centre said she believed this was the right time to start preparation for any international match.
“For the Singapore trip for the Nations Cup, it might depend on the funding but at the moment I just need to get the team prepared for anything.
“The preparation is for the Nations Cup, the Pacific Series and even to try and qualify for the FastNet competition next year,” Rokoura said.
She added she has a lot of work to do for the budding reps in the squad and getting them into a programme was the best option.
