Nelesh Kamal Companyhas made it big in the export arena as his newest market has become the United States.
This will follows their win last year as the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI) Medium Exporter of the Year award.
Company managing director, Nelesh  Kamal, said he was optimistic about the company’s position in securing another win in this year’s awards. For the last four years, the company has grown.
With the Fijian Government introducing the ‘Fijian Made and Buy Fijian’ campaign last year, Mr Kamal believes the company has proven itself by exporting more Fijian made and Fijian grown products to its market.
“Since starting in 2006, I only managed to sell kava from to those whom I export in New Zealand. But after winning the award, we have managed to secure another market in the US,” he said.
Organised by Investment Fiji, this year the Vodafone Westpac Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Awards will be held on November 17 at the award winning InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa.
“I believe this year is another great year for us, because not only have we increased the number of things we sell to our clients, we have exported Fijian Made and Fijian Grown products,” he said.
“I buy the products from farmers and handcrafters in Labasa. They are very hardworking people and they deserve their product to be recognised in the international market.”
When asked if he had plans on increasing his supply, he said: “Not yet. I am still managing the demand of my current clients and this will keep me busy for a while.”
But Mr Nilesh was not always an exporter.
“I started off with kava dealing in the Labasa local market. And I realised that there was a potential market for overseas,” he said.
“With a few phone calls and meetings, one of my friends in New Zealand agreed to buy my products. And from there, it has grown.”
Mr Nelesh operates in Labasa with only three staff to manage his day to day business.
