It is good news to read that the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Skills Movement Scheme (SMS) has come into force. (FS 4/10)
We are told that the MSG countries of Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu have now started with the implementation which was made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that was signed by their leaders under the chairmanship of Fiji Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
The scheme is capped at a quota of 400 where member countries seek to fill their skills shortage from other MSG countries.
A recruitment agent in Suva has a list of about 200 skilled people registered with them, who are all eager and ready to apply for whatever vacancies that meet their skills.
I believe that Australia and New Zealand will soon allow Fiji to participate in their Seasonal Workers Scheme while we wait for the commencement of the Christchurch Rebuild.
Let’s keep praying.
