A locally-owned business is setting trends of what can be used to assist our neighbouring small island nation’s businesses.
Eighteen Wallis and Futuna high school students received internship certificates after completing their three-week internship at Vinod Patel Company Limited on Saturday night.
The youths are business study students from Wallis High School and their internship was focused on teaching them about the Fijian business culture as well as learning English.
Vinod Patel export manager, Momlesh Chandra, said Fiji had a lot of potential for businesses to thrive and that is exactly what the students have learnt.
“We here at Vinod Patel have been privileged to host these students who show interest in not only getting to know about our company, but also about how business works in Fiji,” he said.
“Fiji is the hub of the Pacific and thus we saw fit that students from island states like Wallis Futuna witnessed firsthand why it was called as such and reasons it was an excellent base to do business.
“In the short time, the students have learnt a lot from our staff and the structure of Vinod Patel and I’m sure that when they go back, they will take with them the knowledge that they would not have learnt in class.”
Embassy of France First Counsellor – deputy head of mission, and chief guest, Jules Irrmann, said: “This evening is the celebration of the passing of knowledge.
“A great start for students to learn the business organisation of Fiji and what will be expected of them in the future.”
This completes the second year of an ongoing programme between Fiji and the French Embassy.
Alongside their certificate, the students also received the Vinod Patel plaque with their names engraved on them.
This plaque is usually awarded to outstanding staff of the company.
