The sky is the limit for Nadi soccer players during the Courts Inter-District Championship that kicks off at Govind Park in Ba today.
That is if they pounce on every opportunity there is scoring goals that matter.
The incentive scheme was announced in Surrey, Canada yesterday by an avid Nadi soccer fan.
Subarmani Reddy said a local businessman is definitely putting the money where his mouth is.
“The fervent admirer of Nadi feels it is so important that the players get adequate recognition for their hard work, which often goes unnoticed.
“The donor felt that it was only fitting that there be some sort of financial incentive placed on goals scored at the 2012 IDC,” said Reddy.
He said the donor has run the pledge by Nadi’s soccer team technical advisor Imdad Ali and he (Ali) was very appreciative of the offer.
Reddy said Ali is aware that there is something at the end for them (players) and that their sweat and toil is worth it.
“The players can now have something to fall back on because there is cash tag put on every goals scored.
“The offer is significant and this should by all means make it for an interesting tournament for Nadi who have not won the IDC in over 10 years.
“Obviously winning IDC is in itself a huge achievement and something to be cherished for life,” he said.
A similar pledge was made during the 2009 Battle of the Giants but was rejected by Nadi Football.
