Thanking God on their knees in prayer, the Fijiana women 7s rugby team dedicated their 2012 Asian Rugby Women’s Championship first win to their country, family and supporters.
The 15-0 win against China at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune, India on Sunday afternoon witnessed by many Fijiana fans was a moment to cherish.
“My girls had a tough competition with the reigning champion China in the final. But thank God, they managed to beat all odds,” Kunatuba said.
She said the girls deserved to win.
“I know we played on a Sunday. And we played and families back at home have been praying for us and we thanked them for their support.
“I would also like to thank Fiji Rugby Union, the Kingdom Leadership Christian Church in Fiji, Tima Turagabori family and our families for their encouragement and support.”
She said without God’s blessing, the win would have been impossible.
Meanwhile, China coach Zheng Hong Jun was very disappointed.
“We had a very good team but the major problem was that the girls found it difficult to play in the wet,” Jun said.
“Nevertheless, we are honoured to play against Fiji,” he added.
The team arrives in Nadi at 8.35pm tonight.
