Government officials yesterday visited various schools for children with special needs to celebrate Fiji Day.
While Fiji Day celebrations in Suva officially begins today, the Ministry of Information, National Archives and Library Services visited the Gospel School of the Deaf at Samabula yesterday to celebrate with students.
Permanent Secretary Sharon Smith-Johns highlighted to the students the importance of the occasion and shared with students the vision that Government had for a united Fiji. “Sometimes people do not take Fiji Day seriously and sometimes we forget what it means.
It’s good to know that all of you know and understand the importance of Fiji Day. It’s inspiring to see each of you in your Fiji Day wear and your flags,” Ms Smith-Johns said.
“Independence is a new beginning. When we celebrate Fiji Day, we start a new chapter. The message from Government is unity; let us unite as one nation to celebrate Fiji day,” she said.
Sharing similar sentiments, the chairman of the school board, Howard Politini, encouraged the students to celebrate this momentous occasion.
“A nation grows; its starts building somewhere; and we have the good things and the not so good things that happen in our individual lives”.
Meanwhile other senior Government officials also visited other schools around the country and presented gifts and stationery.
Ministry of iTaukei Affairs Permanent Secretary Savenaca Kaunisela visited the Suva Special School and pointed out that every Fijian deserved to be recognised for their contribution towards our nation.
