Sports contribute a lot to the economy of the country.
These were the words of Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki in opening the 75th Courts Inter-District Championship at Govind Park in Ba yesterday.
“Football is now a source of income for players,”he said.
“I would like to thank Courts for their continued support towards the oldest Fiji Football Association tournament.
“Fiji FA has worked hard over the years to see the further development of the sport and the recent opening of the second FIFA Goal project marked yet another milestone for them.”
Commander Cawaki played in the IDC tournament for the Navua team in 1977 as a striker during his primary school days.
However, he said he couldn’t continue when he moved over to Queen Victoria School where he played rugby during his secondary school days.
In wishing all the participating teams well, he reminded them that football is the winner at the end of the day and that the challenge has been laid and it will be interesting to see who comes out top when the dust settles at Govind Park on Sunday.
