The incorrect report regarding the Malake saga had given hope to the family of the three girls who went missing in the area in 2005.
The report kind of put the spotlight on the authority given the task of guarding our waters.
The people of Malake are not happy as they feel this report will negatively affect the number of tourists that visit the island.
The police said that they did not receive any report of a missing girl and we now learn that the yacht owner is a family friend.
Even though there has been a lot of talk lately on good and accurate reporting by journalists, how should this inaccurate reporting be treated?
For starters, the daily should make a public apology in print that what was reported was incorrect and that any inconvenience caused is regretted.
Readers have enjoyed reading news reported by the journalist involved and we should not allow this one to taint our judgment.
We are still human and prone to making mistakes.
