Two bridges in Suva; at Stinson Parade (behind Village 6) and the Vatuwaqa Bridge will be closed today.
The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) said they would close the bridges to carry out detailed structural inspections.
The Stinson Parade Bridge near the Fish Market will be closed to all traffic from noon today. From 7pm last night, it was closed to allow only single lane traffic.
The Vatuwaqa Bridge along Fletcher Road will only open for single lane light traffic.
“As these bridges are in urgent need of repair, we have taken the decision to close them immediately for the safety of the public,” FRA network and branch manager Mike Rudge said.
“Over the past weeks, we have been carrying out detailed structural inspections on the bridges in the Suva area and we discovered that some bridges need urgent and immediate maintenance,” he said.
FRA has prepared a transport management plan to minimise impacts on traffic and delays associated with the Suva Bridge maintenance and upgrading programme.
