Firefighters around the North were yesterday taught how to make better financial decisions in their workplaces.
‘Finance for non-finance managers/executives’ training was done by the Fiji National University..
Twenty firefighters from the Taveuni, Savusavu and Labasa stations took part.
National Fire Authority training officer Salesh Kumar said the main objective of the training was equipping their officers with good and sound financial skills.
“From next year all stations will generate their own income, meaning the budget will now be on station level and not national level like before. So this training is aimed at enhancing our financial management skills. Accountability is also an issue here,” Mr Kumar said.
Training facilitator Deepika Narayan, a training officer with National Training and Productivity Centre, said the training was meant to enhance the financial management skills of officers. These officers will, at some point in their career, have to review financial documents and statements.
NFA station officer – Taveuni Peleki Leweniqila said the training was very useful.
“The training is very useful on the grounds of finance, to know how to better manage money especially at station level.
