More than 160 vehicles have been seized by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) as ‘Operation Red Zone’ continues along the Sigatoka-Ba highway.
LTA spokesperson Alfred Wiliame said this was the highest number of vehicles impounded so far.
Statistics provided by LTA yesterday revealed that most orders issued by were defect orders – 2280 defect orders were issued as of Thursday, October 11, and 1887 for traffic infringements.
Mr Wiliame says the operation is expected to end on October 19.
“We have been advocating on vehicle safety because we want to reduce defective vehicles on the road. Defective vehicles also produce excessive smoke which is a hazard to environment and the people,” he said.
LTA is calling on motorists to service their vehicles regularly to avoid getting their vehicles seized by LTA.
