The stakeholders of Queen Victoria School, principally the Parents, Guardians and Teachers Association (PGTA), the QVS Old Boys Association and the Ministry of Education (MOE) yesterday gathered at the school for the signing of the contract agreement for the construction of the $140,000.00 extension to the current computer laboratory.
This project is funded by the PGTA and supported by the QVSOB Association with the approval of the MOE while the technical expertise was provided by the Department of Buildings at the Ministry of Works, Transport & Public Utilities.
The project is expected to open on the November 23, during the school’s prize giving day. QVS PGT Association president Mr Kiniviliame Kiliraki says that the purpose of the association is to monitor the progress of education at the school and to interact with matters from parents that need attention.
“It is part of our vision to provider better facilities for our children. QVS has a roll of more than 600 and it has a small computer laboratory that only provides for 30 computers.” he said
With the importance placed on literacy, the stakeholders of this prestigious school have also risen to the challenge to provide an education that is on par with other institutions in the country.
“It has been our endeavor for the last two years to extend the Computer Laboratory, so that all students of QVS will have access to computer literacy.”
According to Mr Kiliraki, the Parents, Guardians and Teachers Association (PGTA), and the QVS Old Boys Association have been implementing initiatives that would assist the Government school in its self help projects.
It has taken them three years to collect the much needed funds to enable them to build the extension.
