Prison warden Ilai Tinai turned from villain to hero, scoring the final try to ensure Fiji’s place in the Gold Coast 7s cup final with a 21-10 win.

Fiji started the match with a converted try to Nadroga’s Ulaiasi Lawavou before Cecil Afrika touched down for the Blitzbokke.

Joji Ragamate continued his fine form during the tournament, scoring on the stroke of half-time for the Fijians to lead 14-7.

Tinai was sinbinned early in the second half, but the South Africans could only score a dropped goal despite the extra man advantage.

He then returned to the field to put the result beyond doubt.

Fiji meets New Zealand in the Cup final after the Kiwis beat Kenya 15-5 in the second semifinal.
