Fiji Day celebrated at the Fiji Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Fiji Day was also celebrated at the Fiji Embassy in Jakarta,Indonesia at the Borobudur Hotel.
Heads of diplomatic missions and staff, business organisations, friends of Fiji and the Fijian community in Indonesia joined in the celebration.
The chief guest was Yuri Thamrin, director general for Asia- Pacific and African Affairs from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia.
He expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation of the cordial relations that existed between Fiji and Indonesia.
Mr Thamrin further encouraged the enhancement of bilateral relations between the two countries in the areas of education, agriculture and trade to name a few. He later extended the best wishes of the Government and people of Indonesia to the Government and people of Fiji.
Fiji’s ambassador Tui Cavuilati thanked all the guests who attended the celebration and provided an extensive update on the political developments in Fiji which includes the electoral reforms, Fiji’s Road Map to Democracy and other important reforms undertaken by Government. Mr Cavuilati explained that the Fiji Embassy was opened in April last year in line with Government’s ‘Look North Policy’ and is also accredited to Singapore and the Association of South East Asian Nations.
With reference to ‘Put up a Flag and Put down a Lovo’, the Fiji Embassy in Jakarta also organised an informal gathering together with a lovo dinner and meke as a build up programme to the Fiji Day celebration. Guests who attended the gathering included former diplomats who had served in the Indonesian Embassy in Fiji, Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials, executive employees on various sectors, international teachers, rugby players and friends of Fiji.
The main objective of the gathering was to establish a Fiji-Indonesia Friendship Association with the objective of promoting public diplomacy.
