Civil servants in Labasa had their Inter-Ministries Sports Day at the Labasa College ground yesterday.
“The main target for this sports day is to bring the civil servants together and other organisations so that they can build networks with each other in the efficient delivery of information to other departments,” said Josefa Sania, the Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports.
“Our main drive is for officers to be encouraged to continue with physical activities and sports and not only once a year but every week,” he said.
He said the sports programme was also addressing the need to tackle non- communicable diseases.
Commissioner Northern Lieutenant- Colonel Ilai Moceica concurred that sports days should be part of the North’s civil service programme.
‘The Northern Division theme is ‘Inclusiveness and Wellness’ and that means the participation of females and males together in a sport and supporting healthy behaviour in the workplace,” he said
“Today I want to encourage other non-itaukei members to take part of this programme because the government of the day is trying to move in the direction of uniting people, said Mr. Sania
Also entertaining at ground was the National Youth Band.
