The weekend saw three cruise liners berth at Suva wharf. The Pacific Jewel of P&O Cruises and the Carnival Spirit of Carnival Cruise Line berthed at the wharf on Saturday while the Volendam of the Holland America Line arrived on Sunday.
A tourist, Barbara Puskeppelies from Australia, said this was her first cruise and Fiji was one of the most awaited destinations.
“Holidays have to be planned well in advance and I was most excited to travel to Fiji. My friends have visited Fiji on previous occasions and had brought me unique Fijian artifacts as gifts,” she said.
Another passenger David Tremellius, also from Australia, said: “There are not much people around today but every person we meet and see has the most brilliant smile attached to them. It makes us want to come back to Fiji again.”
The city’s special administrator, Chandu Umaria said Suva was now becoming as much sought-out tourist destination as Nadi.
The Volendam’s next destination after it left the Suva yesterday was Port Vila, Vanuatu.
