The wait is finally over.
After 28 years, the Finance Pacific Suva soccer team finally brought the Lloyd Farebrother Trophy to the capital city yesterday.
This was after the Fiji Football Association Board of Control officially announced that Suva are the 2012 Courts Inter-District Championship winners.
The decision was made after consultation with the world governing body, FIFA.
Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said Suva were the real IDC champions.
“It was long overdue that Suva has won and congratulations to Suva as far as the presentation is concerned we will be talking to the sponsors and we will let everyone know when will it be done,” he said.
“This we have to take in consideration the sponsor’s mileage and also we will be talking to Suva Football when they want the presentation to be done and how they will want to do it.”
The BOC has also fined Ba Football Association $5000 for walking off the field and refusing to complete the match.
On questions whether Ba will lose the privilege to host Fiji FA-sanctioned tournaments in future, Patel said they were still analysing the situation.
When contacted last night BFA president Rishi Kumar said they are waiting for the Fiji FA’s decision to come to them in writing.
“Once we have received it, the Ba Football Board of Control will sit and discuss the cause of actions. In the meantime we want the Ba fans to accept the decision and enjoy themselves.”
A jubilant Suva Football Association president Mahend Prasad said they will celebrate on Saturday.
“We will give the players incentives and bonuses and we would like to urge all the people in Suva to wear white and celebrate with us this Saturday.”
Prasad said the march would be from the Flea Market right up to Ratu Sukuna Park where all the merry making will continue on.
