The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) team for the annual Ratu Sukuna Tanoa rugby challenge receives a timely boost in their preparations yesterday with the Fiji Sun coming on board as sponsor.
Fiji Sun publisher/chief executive Peter Lomas presents the sponsorship cheque to Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment commanding officer Lieutenant-Colonel Jone Kalouniwai. He received the cheque on behalf of the Commander RFMF during a morning tea yesterday at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks Officers Mess.
Lomas praised the proud record of the RFMF, both on the rugby field and on duty at home and overseas. He said the Fiji Sun was delighted to continue its support for what is now one of the nation’s biggest sporting events.
Team manager Major Penioni Naliva, said: “The RFMF team to defend the Ratu Sukuna Tanoa this year is totally new.
“We don’t have the depth that the Police have. They are quite fortunate in that sense.
“But we have the heart to defend what is ours.”
Police, he said, have the experience and advantage as most of them have been playing together for the past three seasons.
The RFMF will have to dig deep this year, he said.
The game will be played at Churchill Park, Lautoka, on Friday December 7.
