The Wanikalabu rugby team from Nasirotu village in Waidina, Naitasiri is looking for help as they prepare for the Vanuakula 7s next weekend.
Team manager Kami Delamaravu said the team was made up of village boys as they bid to revive rugby in their community.
“We’ve been playing in the Naitasiri Rugby Union competition and now with the 15s season over, we’re trying to get these players to play in small sevens tournament that we can afford.
“Most of these boys plant back in the village, and they sell their produce to help us when we do fundraisings for the team,” Delamaravu said.
He added they were now turning to sports to keep the youth in their village occupied, as they were concerned with the rise in criminal activities in the country.
“This is why we made the initiative to form a team; these boys try to sell their produce to allow them to travel down to Suva because I’m working here.
“And we also do small fundraising drives to pay our registration fees for tournaments.
“Now we are looking forward to being part of the Vanuakula 7s and other tournaments that we can play in,” Delamaravu added.
