The Bargain Box Women’s Inter-District Championship got underway at Govind Park, Ba yesterday.
And many young players made their mark against their more experienced opponents.
Fiji Football women development officer Charlene Lockington said the introduction of the age restriction policy has seen games played at a faster pace.
Lockington said it was refreshing to see young players giving the more experienced ones, a run for their money.
“With the age restriction which sees players between the age of 15 and 28 being eligible to participate in these tournaments, we have noted games played at a faster pace. A lot of these young players are showing good abilities and footwork.
“We have got some very talented kids out in the field and very good potentials as well,” she said.
Day One of the tournament saw Rewa defeating defending champions Suva 1-0.
The tournament continues today and ends on Sunday.
Results: Labasa 3 Nadroga 1; Ba 4 Navua 0; Tavua 2 Lami 0; Rewa 1 Suva 0; Labasa 6 Nadi 1.
