My son returning from a business trip to Germany remembering that I had spent a number of years there as a young man, purchased a small jar of Leberwurst/Liverwurst as a gift for me.
The jar was sealed, the product cooked and had travelled safely with him from Germany via Hong Kong to Nadi Airport where it was confiscated by Fiji Quarantine staff after my son had declared it.
My question is why? It was a few ounces of sterile product, not made in Fiji, it was not going to be sold, it was to savoured joyously by a Fiji pensioner who no longer has a pension, who can no longer afford the cost of small luxuries of this nature even if they were available in Fiji.
Is this the way the world should be?
Can Fiji Quarantine tell me what they have achieved, and was the product incinerated?
