The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) chief executive officer, Opetaia Ravai, left for New Zealand yesterday for the 5th Pacific Water and Wastes Association (PWWA) conference and expo in Auckland, New Zealand this week.
WAF’s Fulori Turaga said Mr Ravai, as chairman of the association, would address the conference.
The two-day meet with the theme, ‘Sanitation and Wastewater – a Pacific solution’, will discuss effective waste water and sanitation management in the region. It will be attended by 15 Pacific Island nations.
Participants will also attend a technical skill-building seminar on water sanitation and water waste management hosted by GHD, one of the world’s leading engineering, architecture and environmental consulting companies.
The seminar will promote the importance of, and offer guidance on, effective waste water and sanitation management which is highly topical throughout Pacific island nations.
The seminar coincides with a recent report by the United Nations (UN) Environment Programme in April titled, “Freshwater under Threat -Pacific Islands”, which cited water management as one of the greatest challenges to water security, particularly the limited technical and governance capability of some island nations.
The seminar from Wednesday to Friday is aimed at equipping delegates with useful and practical information on good practices and improvement of water usage and management.
