The Vodafone Fiji Bati will be able to defend their gold medal in the Rugby League 9s in Papua New Guinea during the 2015 Pacific Games.
This was after the Asia Pacific Rugby League Association confirmed during a meeting in Sydney last week that the 9s competition will be held in the next Pacific Games.
Fiji National Rugby League general manager Tomi Finau said yesterday six teams would be part of the rugby league competition in PNG.
“Six teams have been confirmed and there is likely to be one more either from Tokelau, Solomon Islands or Vanuatu,” he said.
“Fiji won the gold medal in the last Pacific Games and Mini Games as well but it won’t be played at this year’s Mini Games in Wallis.”
Musunamasi heads Asia Pacific association

Fiji National Rugby League board chairman is no longer a board member of the Rugby League International Federation.
But FNRL general manager Tomi Finau said Musunamasi would remain the director of the Asia Pacific Rugby League Association. “To us at FNRL it’s a blessing in disguise as he has now more time to help us with our work towards the World Cup,” Finau said. The Association consists of members from PNG, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands Australia and New Zealand.
Finau said Canada had also shown interest to join the Association and to them this meant more members and greater voice at the international committee.
“Through the association we hope to have a voice at the board of the RLIF and take up challenges that are faced by the associations in the Pacific,” Finau added.
