Fiji is ready to host the G77 meeting.
This was confirmed to the Fiji Sun at the Airways Hotel in Port Moresby by the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, last Thursday.
He was about to fly out to attend a special high level meeting of the UN’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York.
“Everything is set and we’re just waiting for the participants,” the Prime Minister said.
More details are expected after the Prime Minister’s return from the United States.
He is expected to travel to Florida for sugar talks afterwards.
The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Amena Yauvoli, accompanied him to the New York meeting.
Mr Yauvoli said the Prime Minister was attending the ECOSOC meeting in New York in his capacity as chair of the Group of 77 and China.
A release from New York said the Bretton Woods institutions, the World Trade Organisation, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development were at the meeting.
It centred on the theme “Coherence, Co-ordination and Co-operation in the Context of Financing for Development and the Post-2015 Development Agenda.”
Ministers of Finance, Development and Cooperation and Governors of Central Banks from around the globe also attended the meeting.
Before addressing the high level meeting on behalf of the G77 and China, the Prime Minister met the secretary-general of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon and the president of ECOSOC, Ambassador Nestor Osorio of Colombia.
