Table tennis in the country continues to grow following the successful three-day junior training camp in Suva this week.
Fiji Table Tennis Association president, Anthony Ho said the turnout was great and kids as young as eight years were part of the programme.
Fiji Table Tennis has started the junior training camp at Garden City for children aged between 6-15 years old.
“This is part of grooming our players for three international tournaments in August,” Ho said.
“The camp was divided into two groups, one consisting of national under-15 and under- 18 squad members who are preparing for the upcoming Fiji Games as well as the Oceania Cadet qualifications, Oceania Junior Championships and World Junior Circuit that will take place in New Caledonia from August 11-24.
“Apart from these events, Fiji Table Tennis will welcome top US female player and table tennis celebrity in Hollywood, Kim Gilbert to run a table tennis clinic and exhibition for a weeklong Table Tennis festival next month.
“We look forward to a successful 2013 tennis season and a good outing from our players in the Fiji Games this weekend.”
Ho said deaf table tennis players have also been impressive so far and they are expected to be part of the national squad for the three international tournaments in August.
