Boxing Commission of Fiji director and leading broadcaster Malakai Veisamasama is understood to be among those being considered for Fiji Rugby Union chief executive.
SUNSport has been told that Veisamasama is one of the three being shortlisted for the post.
When contacted yesterday Veisamasama said: “That’s news to me.”
“If I’m approached I’ll think about it because I realise that it’s the hottest seat in the country.”
Veisamasama said that he would have to seriously think about any career change because he had been with Communications Fiji Limited for a long time.
“But I haven’t been approached … am I part of the latest rumour?” Veisamasama said.
Veisamasama has been a driving force in the Boxing Commission and is widely respected in sports circles.
Calls made to FRU acting CEO Berlin Kafoa and board member Esther Williams – who handles Human Resource matters -remained unanswered when this edition went to press.
Baljeet Singh, another board member, said they would have a board meeting today to talk on the position.
“Berlin is the best man to ask on the CEO’s position; no comments; I can’t say anything,” Singh said.
The position of CEO has been left vacant since former CEO Manasa Baravilala was stood down last September.
