Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday came to the rescue of a group travelling to a funeral in the Nadroga highlands.
The group was travelling to Lokia when their bus slid off the road because of the silt left behind by the flood waters.
The Prime Minister was checking flood damage in the area and came upon the scene. He immediately got out of his vehicle and started organising and directing a rescue mission for the stranded bus and its passengers.
“It’s normal to see him doing that because he really cares and those in the bus were on their way to a funeral,” Lieutenant-Colonel Amani Suliano said.
“He was concerned about those in the bus and they were surprised to see the Prime Minister directing from the front.”
The bus was pulled out and resumed its journey to Lokia with grateful passengers.
