Fiji’s first boxing television reality show – The Contender has finally been sanctioned by the Boxing Commission of Fiji.
BCF director (West) Usman Ali told SUNsports yesterday, that ‘The Contender’ proposed by the show’s director, Farmaan Ali, has been given the thumbs up.
“It is a big thing for boxing in Fiji as it will take the sport to another level,”Ali said.
“It took us about six months to go through the whole proposal and to see how it will assist the sport.”
Farmaan was over the moon when being given the green light.
“It is good news and I aim to take boxing to another level,” Farmaan said.
“I have been planning this programme for the last two years. This is the first of its kind in Fiji. I will immediately start my work in organising the event.
“It will be aired on FBC TV for a duration of six months beginning in March. I just have to line up my sponsors.”
According to Farmaan, about 10-16 boxers will be involved.
“It will be pool system of 5 x 3 min bouts and the winners will advance to the eliminations, semifinal and the grand final.”
