Mehandra Rarasinghe scored 38 runs as Danam Fiji defeated Nakavu Two by five wickets in round two of the 2014 Lautoka Cricket League at the Central College Lautokal last Saturday.
Nakavu Two won the toss and elected to bat; made 98/8 in 20 overs with Patrick Tuidraki scoring 25 runs while Luisa Degei managed 14 runs.
In reply Danam Fiji tallied 100/6 in just 18 overs, with Malinda Ma scoring 28 runs. Rarasinghe claimed three wickets and Michael Driu two wickets.
In match three, Vilisoni Rakodriea scored 41 runs to help Moce West defeat Nasaqalau Sharks by 65 runs.
Moce West won the toss and elected to bat and amassed 119 all out. Mosese Ravula scored 21 runs.
Nasaqalau Sharks bowler Joji Senico claimed four wickets while Tuilakeba Naulumatau got three.
In reply, Nasaqalau Sharks were all out for 54 runs with Shalvin Narayan scoring 18 runs. But this was not enough as Moce West  bowler Mosese Ravula claimed three wickets with Josefa Koto and Vilisoni Rakodriea claiming two wickets each.
Nakavu One defeated Lautoka Knights by 82 runs. Nakavu One won the toss and elected to bat and scored 156/8 in 20 overs. In reply Lautoka Knights were all out in 74 runs.
Lautoka Cricket Association media liason, Rukesh Patel, said the weekly league has firmed up.
“It’s good to see that Nakavu Two (women’s team) manage to score 98 runs against a Sri Lankan side  representing Danam Fiji side, which shows that these women have bright future in women’s cricket,” Patel said who is also the Cricket Fiji development officer.
Tournament referee Alvin Kumar said, “The competition is getting tougher as each teams are coming out very strongly.”
