While Valentine’s Day is traditionally marked by lovers, the Reddy Dimond Group chose to take a different approach by spreading their love at the Lautoka Special School.
The group’s social club spent the day enthralling students with a number of animated activities and provided lunch and financial assistance.
The gesture also gave them the chance to learn more about educating special-needs children.
“This was part of our club’s annual activity and it was wonderful to spend time with these children and get an insight into their learning environment,” said group’s human resources manager, Kavita Verma.
The school caters for 75 students, aged 5-30 years, who face hearing impairments and are physically or intellectually challenged.
According to the school’s principal, Fairul Shaheet, such visits from corporate bodies are a blessing.
“It has been an honour to have the Reddy Group here as it shows that there are people in the community who still care for these special children,” Ms Shaheet said.
“The education also goes both ways- visitors get a look at how these children are taught and the students also get to spend time and learn about their visitors.”
