Upholding respect for other people, their positions and professions is an integral ingredient for leadership, Kamil Muslim College prefects were told last Wednesday.
The Ba school’s newly inducted prefects are this year being led by headboy Uwais Gibran and headgirl Nilufa Khan.
Chief guest and principal education officer of Ba, Tavua and Nadarivatu, Sashi Singh, also offered some practical pointers on their new roles, including time management, student rights and corporal punishment.
The role of the prefects extends beyond assisting the teachers to oversee Kamil’s 660 student roll.
According to school vice-principal, Gulsher Ashrafi, they will also be responsible for a number of sub-committees for community projects and be involved in holding peer tutorial groups.
“They are very much part of decision-making and ensure good student representation,” Mr Ashrafi said.
The head prefects were appointed in accordance with a nominating and voting system by school teachers, who also noted the discipline and academic performance of nominees when selecting the student leaders.
