Accused sentence
A 22-year-old fishing crew of Rong Dayal was handed down a suspended sentence yesterday by the Suva Magistrates Court.
Tommy Kinoshita Biu, charged with theft, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Margaret Mua.
The complainant and University of the South Pacific student Jeffery Kemakeza, 25,  was on his way out of a nightclub on February 16, 2014 when Biu grabbed his wallet containing $800 Solomon currency and FJD $80.
He was chased by a nightclub bouncer and was arrested.
He admitted stealing the wallet. In mitigation the court heard that Biu comes from a broken family, resides with his uncle, pleaded guilty and is a first offender. He was given a six-months prison term suspended for 12 months.

Bench warrant
A bench warrant was issued to two family members after they did not appear in court yesterday.
Hendry Johnson and Peni Yaioqaqa are jointly charged alongside Miliana Johnson and Cheryl Johnson with disobedience of lawful order.
They were issued with a Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) and they had breached it. The case has been adjourned to March 26.

Case adjourned
The case of a former clerical officer of the Ministry of Finance’s Treasury Department was adjourned yesterday because the defence lawyer was not present in court.
Ilaitia Ravuwai, 22, had his case adjourned to February 25 by Magistrate Sufia Hamza.  Ravuwai is being charged with 240 counts of forgery. The case has been adjourned to the 25th for the summary of facts.

Accused remanded
A man charged with disorderly conduct was remanded by Magistrate Sufia Hamza yesterday. He will be sentenced on February 19.
In mitigation he informed the court that he is married, just started working as a carpenter, apologised for his action and promised not to reoffend.
