Japanese Ambassador Eiich Oshima and his wife were farewelled at the official residence on Monday evening.
Having completed two years of his tenure here in Fiji Mr Oshima said he felt sad to leave this beautiful country.
“I have got to understand the meaning of the Pacific Way as well as the ‘bula’ spirit. This is the probably the last posting as ambassador of Japan for me,” Mr Oshima said.
“Upon assuming my duties here, Japan- Fiji relationship was not good due to issues relating to the PALM6(the sixth Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting) which was held in Japan in May 2012.
“Based on the dynamics of our relations I dedicated myself to pursuing my mission on improving Japan- Fiji relations on the basis of a two pillar strategy.”
As a result of efforts made by Japan under the two pillars it has shown great improvement and the bilateral relations has been restored between the two countries.
Mr Oshima and his wife will leave Suva on February 24.
