The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the National Road Safety Council have been diligently providing awareness regarding the safety of road users Fiji wide.
Both are focusing more on motorists and less on pedestrians. As such, more pedestrians pay little attention to motorists other then themselves.
First and foremost, the area between the road curbs or seal edges is the carriageway and is designed for vehicles.
Pedestrians have to learn that this is not their territory. If there is no footpath or walkway, still it is not your territory.
If pedestrians move into this area, they are liable themselves. So, road safety cut both ways and awareness should be provided for both parties.
