What Happened: The Kameli Kilacawa-coached Navua side staged a good fightback to beat Nadroga 2-1 in the Fiji Sun/Skipper Tuna National Football League match at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday.
The side tasted their first victory in the league while the Stallions suffered their fifth loss.
Both teams made a nervous start and had their share of say in the match but Navua with 10 men proved too strong for the Stallions.
Navua defender Simione Maikali was sent off in the 26th minute. But this did not deter the players from scoring their first win with striker Vineet Chand scoring in the 30th minute.
Chand brothers, Monit and Vineet after missing two games, displayed impressive skills.
Halftime: Navua 1 Nadroga 0.
The Big Play: There were numerous key performers for the Stallions and this was shown after Tomasi Tuicakau’s header tied the match in the 86th minute.
Navua on the other hand kept the pressure on with 10 men but the match remained on tenterhooks well into the extra time of the second half.
Star turn: Navua kept the heat on and were rewarded for their efforts by star striker Vineet Chand scoring the winning goal in the 92nd minute putting Navua up 2-1.
Comments: Navua coach Kilacawa applauded striker Chand’s leadership quality.
“We lifted our fitness and this contributed to our win.
“I thank the boys for a good game and we look forward to our next game against Lautoka,’’ said Kilacawa.
Nadroga coach Arvind Nair says the side lacks good finishing upfront and they will need to find good striker.
