Fijians have been warned to prepare for damaging winds and heavy rain with flooding of rivers and streams likely by Thursday.

This is after Tropical Low TD14F was analysed at 6pm approximately 720km northwest of Nadi.

The low is moving southeast at about 18 kmph, but it is forecast to intensify further over the next 24 to 48 hours and, on its present path, lie just to the west of the southern Yasawa islands around 6pm on Tuesday.

The slow moving nature of this system is a major threat to Fiji and extensive heavy rains can cause landslides, erode beaches and riverbanks, damage roads and bridges.

The public is urged to listen for further updates from Nadraki and Fiji Meteorological Service and follow advice from local authorities that may be forthcoming in the next few days.
