The Jet Runners Club of Nadi plans to host road races fortnightly to lift the standard of the sport in the Western Division.
Club president Abhinesh Kumar says road races will help athletes to develop their skills to prosper further and promote healthy living.
“Having road races every fortnight will see the number of runners increase and the level of competition getting tough.
“This will not only revive road races in the Western Division but also bring out more runners to join and stay healthy,’’ said Kumar.
He said plans are in the pipeline with the Fiji National University to host road races fortnightly.
Kumar says since the club started promoting road racing, he has seen new runners from Sigatoka and as far as Tavua taking part.
“In July 2013, the club organised a Fun Run Against Drugs at Korovuto College, Nadi which saw the participation of a 65-year old woman from Tavua.
“Veteran runner Anil Kumar finished third in the 3 kilometre Veterans Run, setting an example for elderly citizens to adhere to healthy living.
Meanwhile, the club is also planning to host a 5 kilometre road race in Sigatoka in the next two weeks.
