The Navua River burst its bank after continuous heavy rain yesterday.
Access into the town was difficult as the flooded waters had covered the roads.
When the Fiji Sun team visited Navua yesterday, it witnessed Lobau Village, Wainadoi and Calia Settlement being inundated while floodwaters had filled the compound and were half way into the Navua Hospital.
Patients and staff from the Navua Hospital vacated the ground floor since water was coming in and were operating from the first floor.
A Ministry of Information statement said the Navua Hospital would be open for emergency cases only with a temporary clinic set up on the second floor of the hospital and manned by health officials on a 12-hour shift.
The health ministry said contingency plans had been activated at hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals and health centres within the central, eastern and northern divisions.
