Unfavourable weather conditions around the country led to some cancellations and delays in Fiji Airways and Pacific Sun flights yesterday.
Pacific Sun had to cancel the Suva-Lakeba and Lakeba-Suva services yesterday while Fiji Airways’ Suva-Funafuti and Funafuti-Suva services were cancelled.
Some Pacific Sun flights to Labasa, Suva and the Lau Group were also delayed.
This was confirmed by Fiji Airways managing director/chief executive, Stefan Pichler.
He said a Labasa-Suva flight had to be temporarily diverted to Nadi because of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Suva/Nausori area.
“Nausori Airport was closed for refueling and boarding of passengers,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Nadi-Rotuma and Rotuma-Nadi services scheduled for today have also been cancelled because of forecast adverse weather conditions en-route.
Pacific Sun is planning supplementary Suva-Labasa and Labasa-Nadi services for today, subject to weather conditions.
Nadi Airport
Mr Pichler said there were minimum delays out of Nadi yesterday, however, because of weather conditions en-route, all aircraft had to carry return fuel which has led to offload of baggage.
Weather permitting, all bags were to be dispatched on the afternoon flights.
Customers have been requested to contact Fiji Airways/Pacific Sun 24/7 Call Centre on 3304388 for further flight information.
