Lomaivuna Secondary School Under-19 rugby team cost yesterday’s upset in the Vodafone Cup Secondary Schools Bati Championship in the Southern Zone with their 16-10 win against Latter Day Saints (LDS) College.
Lomaivuna captain Iowane Baleicakau said while they were happy with their win, there were some areas that needed to be addressed before the next game.
“There are three key areas we need to work on after today’s game and those are ball handling, missed tackles and overside. All these three technical areas cost us a lot of points and almost cost us the match, but we’re fortunate to have pulled it together in the end and manage a win,” he said.
The Wailevu, Tumuloa, Vanua Levu native was also very thankful to LDS College, the hosts.
LDS College principal Michael Carthew was proud of the rugby making a comeback in the school after a lapse of many years.
“LDS was once a giant in rugby back in the 1980s and 90s and we’re proud to be creating school history as the administration to bring back this sport after so many years. We’re making a comeback in this sport and we look forward to a great future in the sport,” he said.
The game ended with Lomaivuna winning 16-10.
They play Marist Brothers High School while LDS College faces Suva Grammar School in their next matches at the Veiuto Primary School grounds on Saturday.
