Members of the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces yesterday made a traditional presentation to their outgoing Commander to show their appreciation.
Soldiers described Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama’s leadership for the last 15 years as strong and steady, leaving a lasting legacy for all to follow.
He was presented with traditional gifts as a token of their appreciation while some revealed that it was hard to let their leader go.
3FIR commanding officer Lieutenant-Colonel Manoa Gadai put it all in a nutshell when he presented the offering on behalf of the all the soldiers.
“During the 2000 mutiny, a group of soldiers stormed the camp in their bid to end your life, but you stood up like David against the giant Goliath as told in the Bible; you managed to overcome them,” Commodore Bainimarama was told.
“Those trying times never deterred you and it never came in the way of your leadership. You managed to overcome all those obstacles,” Lieutenant-Colonel Gadai said.
Commodore Bainimarama was also thanked for his firm leadership, his kindness, and for ensuring the welfare of his troops. He was praised for his leadership not only within the military but also for the whole country.
Lieutenant-Colonel Gadai told Commodore Bainimarama that the military’s loss had become the country’s gain as he prepared to stand in the coming general elections.
The offering, in the words of Lieutenant-Colonel Gadai, was insignificant compared to what he had done for them in the last 15 years.
In response, Commodore Bainimarama thanked them for their unwavering support and wished all of them and their families the very best.
