Four records were set yesterday during the Sila Central High School inter-house athletics meet in Nausori yesterday.
While competition was held in soggy conditions, the shattering of some standing records showed the strength which the school will rely on in the Nausori, Naitasiri, Nasinu (Triple N) Zone One meet in a fortnight.
School’s head of Physical Education, Music, Art and Craft (PEMAC), Navneet Sharma said the new records were set in the field events.
“This could be where we will be strong as we defend the boys Triple N,” Sharma said.
“Even though the conditions were wet and the ground heavy, there was display of some strong competitions.
“We will be strong in the sprints in the Triple N and the Coca-Cola Games in the Senior Division. This is because of our students from the intermediates last year.
“The records set were in the intermediate javelin and shot put. Petero Ligairi set a new javelin record of 49 metres breaking the standing record of 39m set in 2010.
“Petero also set an intermediate shot put record of 12.20m from the standing record held by Navitalai Naivalurua.
“The third record was set by Ratu Mua Cavuilati in the senior boys shot put where he threw 12.71metres breaking the old mark of 10.82 metres set in 2010. The last record was set by Mereisi in the Intermediate javelin with a distance of 22.56 metres from the old record of 18.14 metres set by Akanisi Seduadua in 2008.”
The athletes who set the records were from Rogovoka House.
The winning house in yesterday’s Crest-sponsored inter-house athletics will be announced during the school assembly on Monday because it finished late.
