The Athletics Fiji annual general meeting will be held next week, says Dr Robin Mitchell.
The veteran sports administrator made the confirmation yesterday after meeting with the elected executives of Athletics Fiji over the past few weeks.
During his recent visit to Sochi, Russia to attend the Winter Olympic Games, Dr Mitchell was asked by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to assist the two factions involved to sort out their problems.
“Over the past 10 days or so, I have been meeting with representatives of the two groups led by Albert Miller and Dr Alakija respectively to understand the background leading to the situation that athletics is currently in,”he said.
“Following our meeting, it was decided that the AGM will now be held on March 29 at a venue to be decided in the Western division.
“This period would allow us time to review the membership of Athletics Fiji, so that the names of affiliated clubs and their representatives are entitled to attend and vote at the AGM. At the AGM, the election for the executive committee of Athletics Fiji will take place and shall consist of the duly elected officers plus one (1) representative selected by all the affiliated clubs (Constitution of Athletics Fiji Revised 2008).”
The positions up for elections are: president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, chief technical official, chief development official, athlete’s representative.
