Acting Police Commissioner Ravi Narayan has suspended two of his officers from the Lautoka Police Station.
This follows investigations into the alleged assault of a minor in a case of theft.
A statement from Police confirmed that the pair was charged with disciplinary offences and are now awaiting internal tribunal proceedings.
“The findings of the internal investigation found that the two officers had allegedly breached police practices and procedures in dealing with a person kept in police custody,” the statement said.
Police say the two remain suspended pending the outcome of the internal tribunal.
“The head of the Fiji Police Force has once again reiterated that he will not condone or entertain any officers who abuse their power while executing their duties.”
The Acting Police Commissioner earlier rebuked such conduct, warning that Police officers who breached procedures and practices would be dealt with severely and emphasised that their uniform did not approve them unlimited power.
He said such incidents were the reason he had to re-establish the Internal Affairs Unit, which was reinstated in November last year.
He said the Fiji Police Force had no room for officers who abused their powers.
